The situation
A printing and stamps business where almost every order began with the same three phone calls: what exactly do you need, in what quantity, and can you send the artwork. Useful conversations, repeated hundreds of times.
What we found
Customers were not being difficult. The site listed what the business made but not what it needed to know to price it, so there was no way to arrive with the right information.
What we did
Each product page now states the specification, the quantities available and the realistic turnaround, in plain terms. The enquiry form asks for those choices and accepts an artwork file alongside them.
We also wrote out how an order actually proceeds — artwork check, proof, print, collection or delivery — because customers were calling to ask that as much as anything else.
How it went
Enquiries arrive with the specification and usually the artwork attached. The calls that remain are the ones worth having, about jobs that genuinely need a conversation.
What we would do differently
We should have put file-size and format guidance next to the upload rather than on a separate page. The first weeks produced a run of unusable artwork files that a single line of text would have prevented.
Questions About This Project
Yes, attached directly to the enquiry along with the specification, so quoting does not need three phone calls first.
It works well. The site captures the specification needed to quote, which removes the back-and-forth without pretending a bespoke job has a fixed price.
